Understanding Email Campaign Statuses

Updated Oct 26, 2026 · 3 min read

Monitor your email sends and track campaign progress using the status indicators in Email Marketing.

Email Campaigns, Workflow Campaigns, and Bulk Action Campaigns each have specific statuses that show whether campaigns are being prepared, scheduled, processed, or completed.

What Are Email Campaign Statuses

Email campaign statuses indicate the current stage of a campaign or its sending process.

Different status indicators are available for Email Campaigns, Workflow Campaigns, and Bulk Action Campaigns.

These statuses help you monitor campaign activity, identify whether emails are being processed, and determine when further action may be necessary.

Email Campaign Statuses

Email Campaigns are created and managed under Marketing → Emails → Campaigns.

Each status represents a stage in preparing, scheduling, or sending an email campaign.

StatusDescription
DraftThe campaign has been created but is not scheduled or sent.
ScheduledThe campaign is set to send at a specified future date or time.
PausedA scheduled campaign is temporarily stopped and can be resumed.
CanceledA scheduled campaign has been stopped permanently and cannot be resumed.
SentThe sending process is finished, but some recipients may not have received the email.
FailedAn error or configuration problem prevented the campaign from sending.
ArchivedThe campaign is hidden from the active campaign view without being deleted.

Note: The All filter shows campaigns across different statuses. It is a filter, not an individual campaign status. Available statuses and controls may differ depending on the campaign type and sending method.

For instructions on managing scheduled campaigns, see How to Pause, Resume, or Cancel a Scheduled Email Campaign.

Workflow Campaign Statuses

Workflow Campaigns send automated emails through workflow actions.

These statuses describe whether a workflow is published, rather than whether individual emails were successfully delivered.

StatusDescription
DraftThe workflow has not been published and is inactive.
PublishedThe workflow is active and can run when its configured triggers and conditions are met.

Note: A Published status does not confirm that workflow emails have been sent or delivered. Review workflow email statistics to evaluate individual email performance.

Bulk Action Campaign Statuses

Bulk Action Campaigns send emails to selected contacts through Contacts → Bulk Actions.

Their statuses indicate whether a bulk email job is waiting, running, interrupted, or finished.

StatusDescription
DraftThe bulk email campaign has not yet been submitted for sending.
QueuedThe email job is awaiting processing.
ProcessingThe bulk email job is actively processing sends.
PausedProcessing has temporarily stopped. Whether it can resume depends on the available job controls.
CompleteProcessing is finished, although individual emails may have failed delivery.
CancelledProcessing ended before the job was complete. Previously processed emails cannot be recalled.

Note: Available controls depend on the bulk job type and its current status. Review the job's available actions before attempting to pause, resume, or cancel it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does a Sent or Complete status mean every recipient received the email?

No. These statuses confirm that sending or processing has finished, not that every message was delivered successfully.

Check delivery metrics, bounces, and failures in Email Statistics to review the results.

Q: Can I resume a canceled email campaign?

No. A canceled scheduled campaign cannot be resumed.

A paused scheduled campaign can be resumed using the available campaign controls.

Q: Why is my workflow Published but no emails have been sent?

Publishing a workflow makes it eligible to execute. Emails are sent only when contacts meet the configured triggers and conditions.

Check workflow enrollment activity and email actions to investigate why emails have not been sent.

Q: Can I edit a campaign after it has been scheduled?

The available editing options depend on the campaign's current status.

Review the campaign actions to determine which changes are supported.

Q: Where can I investigate failed bulk email sends?

  1. Navigate to Contacts → Bulk Actions.

  2. Locate the affected bulk email job.

  3. Select Show Stats.

  4. Review the processing results and available error information to identify failures.
